How Much Does GEO Cost? (2026 Pricing Guide)

Updated July 3, 2026·8 min read·by Thomas Doyne
The short answer

In 2026, GEO tools cost roughly $100 to $1,000 per month, done-for-you GEO agency retainers run $1,500 to $30,000+ per month depending on scope and category competitiveness, and one-off consulting projects start around $5,000. ezgeo.ai publishes its pricing: a $500 one-time audit, then $1,500 to $5,000 per month.

Ask five GEO vendors what they charge and four will answer with a discovery call. That opacity is the first thing to understand about GEO pricing in 2026: most providers price by what your budget sounds like. This guide publishes the real market ranges, what actually drives them, and the questions that expose padding.

The three ways to buy GEO, and what each costs

OptionTypical 2026 costWhat you getHidden cost
GEO tool (Profound, Peec, Otterly)$100–$1,000 / moMeasurement: citation tracking, share of voice, prompt monitoringYour team still does all the fixing, content, schema, and outreach
GEO agency (done-for-you)$1,500–$30,000+ / moExecution: technical fixes, answer-ready content, citations, reportingQuality varies wildly; many are SEO agencies with a renamed deck
GEO consultant (project)$5,000–$50,000 one-timeAn audit and a roadmap, sometimes hands-on implementationMomentum dies when the project ends; GEO compounds monthly

The mid-market sweet spot for a serious done-for-you GEO program in 2026 is $3,000–$10,000 per month. Below that you get partial coverage; far above it you are paying for enterprise process, not more citations.

What actually drives a GEO retainer's price

  • Category competitiveness. Getting cited for “best CRM” costs multiples of a niche devtools category, more engines to win, more incumbent citations to displace.
  • Engine coverage. ChatGPT and Perplexity share only about 11% of cited sources, so every additional engine is genuinely additional work, not a checkbox.
  • Off-site scope. Roughly 88% of AI citations come from third-party sources, review platforms, communities, and editorial coverage. Programs that include digital PR and citation building cost more because that is where the results live.
  • Content production. Answer-ready rewrites, original research, and comparison assets are the expensive, compounding part. A retainer without content is a monitoring subscription in disguise.
  • Reporting depth. Per-engine share of voice benchmarked against competitors takes real prompt-panel infrastructure; a screenshot of one ChatGPT answer does not.

Published pricing: what ezgeo.ai charges

Most GEO agencies keep pricing behind a sales call. We publish ours, partly because transparent pricing is itself a citation magnet, and partly because it forces the scope to be honest:

TierPriceBuilt for
AI-Visibility Audit$500, one-timeSeeing exactly where you stand before spending a dollar on retainers
Foundationsfrom $1,500 / moGetting found: review-platform consistency, brand citations, technical formatting, monitoring
Growthfrom $5,000 / moMost B2B SaaS teams: everything in Foundations plus schema, the answer-capsule content engine, and cross-source entity mentions
EnterprisecustomFunded scale-ups: multi-model testing, digital PR, Knowledge Graph maintenance, dedicated strategist

Full tier detail, including what is in each deliverable, is on the pricing page. The six-month initial term exists because GEO compounds: technical fixes lift visibility in weeks, but durable citation share takes two to four months to build, then keeps accruing.

Tool vs agency: the real cost comparison

A $400-per-month tool looks cheaper than a $5,000 retainer until you price the hours. A tool tells you which prompts you are losing; someone still has to restructure the pages, build the schema, earn the G2 and Reddit and editorial presence, and refresh content monthly. Priced at a loaded marketing-hire cost, that is easily 20 to 40 hours a month of specialist time, more than the retainer, before counting the learning curve. If you have in-house GEO expertise and spare capacity, buy the tool. If you want the citations without the headcount, the agency is the cheaper path to the outcome. The full breakdown is in our GEO agency explainer.

Red flags when a GEO provider quotes you

  • No audit before the retainer. If they can price the fix without measuring your current visibility, they are selling a package, not a program.
  • Guaranteed citation counts. Engines re-rank constantly and nobody controls them. Honest providers guarantee the work and the measurement, not a number.
  • Vanity reporting. If the monthly report is traffic and impressions rather than citations and per-engine share of voice, you are buying SEO reporting with a GEO logo.
  • Pricing that only exists on a call. Ranges exist; a provider that will not publish even a floor is pricing your budget, not the work.

Is GEO worth the cost in 2026?

The honest framing: Gartner projects a quarter of traditional search volume shifting to AI interfaces by 2026, and AI-referred visitors convert at multiples of organic search visitors because they arrive pre-recommended. In our own research across 304 B2B SaaS companies, 23% were invisible when AI was asked to recommend tools in their own category, and only 9% structured content so an engine could cite it. That gap is exactly what a GEO budget buys down, and because so few companies are doing the work yet, early spend buys disproportionate share of voice.
